ANIMAL ATTACK: Police Shoot Two Pit bulls after Attacking Retired Fire Captain

October 10, 2011

Glendora - The local police has shot and killed two pit bulls to prevent them from mauling a 67-year old retired fire captain who was out on an early morning walk, reports said.

Reports said the incident occurred on 1600 block of South Sunflower Avenue at around 4 am. The victim said he was able to fend off the attack with a wooden walking stick until it broke. He continued to defend himself with the fragment of the broken stick.

When police arrived, the victim was trying to climb over a wall but the dogs pulled him down. The dogs continued to attack, this time one of them advanced on the officer, who fired the gun on one of the dogs and killed it.

Police later tranquilized the other dog while the victim was brought to a local hospital for treatment of puncture wounds to his face, arms, torso, legs and groin, and for possible broken shoulder.
