Police Still Searching for Witnesses in Young Motorcyclist's Fatal Crash

August 24, 2009

Sonoma – The Santa Rosa police are still continuing the search for witnesses as well as the unidentified man who pulled the body of the motorcyclist from the burning bike in order to help determine the cause of the fatal motorcycle accident.

It was a broadside collision with a Chevy Tahoe driven by Santa Rosa resident Luis Medina, 18 which killed 21-year old Trystan Shelley of Sebastopol early Saturday. The two vehicles crossed paths in the intersection of Highway 12 and Fulton Road where Shelley was eastbound. Authorities still cannot determine which of the two motorists had the green light at the time of the accident.

Neither Medina nor his four passengers in his car were hurt in the collision. Although Medina, who is cooperating with the police has testified that he had the green light when he was making his turn, authorities are still looking for an independent witness.

The occupants of the vehicle behind Medina know him personally and cannot be considered independent witnesses. A Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy was also nearby but he failed to see who had a right of way at the time of the accident.

Blood tests have also been taken of both the drivers in the accident but the authorities are still hoping that the unidentified man who pulled Shelley’s body from the motorcycle would come forward to offer further information on the accident.
