CAR ACCIDENT: Real World's Puck Facing DUI charges after car wreck

March 24, 2010

San Diego - David "Puck" Rainey, star of Real World's San Francisco, is facing charges of driving under alcohol influence, after a car accident, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Rainey suffered neck injuries, and was treated in San Diego Hospital.

The police said Rainey's car encountered difficulty in making a turn on Route 79's curve at 9:20 p.m. on Friday. The Ford Fiesta car was heading north, near Descanso community. The car missed the curve, fell off an embankment, and crashed its roof in a creek bed.

Rainey, 41 years old, was driving with his 8-year-old son Bogart, on their way to a fishing trip. CHP Officer Brian Pennings said that Rainey had high level of intoxication that caused his failure to navigate a curve.

Bogart suffered minor injuries and was able to come out into the levee, where he was helped by a motorist.

Michael Martin, Real World Star representative, verified Rainey's and Bogart's involvement in the car accident. "Puck's wife, Betty, confirmed with me that he and his son Bogart were involved in a very serious car accident on Friday, March 19, in San Diego. I am thankful Bogart, age 8, has been released from the hospital to his mother, Betty, today when it was initially feared he would not survive," he said.

Martin explained that Rainey needed surgery, and had difficulty in speaking. He was also preparing for the defense of Rainey's case. Pennings said that Rainey will face DUI, driving without license, and child endangerment charges.

"Rainey was arrested for suspicion of DUI, however, he remains hospitalized due to his medical condition," said Pennings.
