EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Sex Discrimination Lawsuit Filed Against Amtrak

February 2, 2011

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A sex discrimination and retaliation lawsuit has been filed against Amtrak recently in a US District Court in Philadelphia by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of Sheila Davidson, a human resources manager who is assigned at the 30th Street Station in New York of the railroad company.

According to the lawsuit, Amtrak refused to pay Davidson more than what two male counterparts are earning even though she had significantly heavier workload while she was working as human resources regional director between 2001 and 2006.

This continued even after she took her current job as director of workforce planning in 2006.

Davidson also alleges retaliation after she was barred from staff meetings when the company found out that she filed a complaint with the EEOC.

According to the EEOC, the lawsuit was filed after talks with Amtrak failed to yield an acceptable resolution.

The federal agency is seeking back pay, punitive damages and other financial compensation for Davidson and will also seek an order to require Amtrak to stop discrimination practices.

Amtrak has not made any comment about the lawsuit.
