Skype Founders File Copyright Lawsuit Against Company and eBay

September 15, 2009

San Francisco, California - Founders of Skype, a company that introduced a technology that supports voice calls over the Internet, has filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against eBay Inc. which acquired the company in 2005 for nearly $2.6 billion.

Skype founders Niklas Zennstron and Janus Friis, who also own Joltid Ltd., accused eBay of violating an agreement in regard with the use of a peer-to-peer technology that allows people to route calls over the Internet.

In a court-affidavit, Joltid is asking for a court injunction that will prevent Skype’s from using the said technology.

The complainants are also seeking damages and allege they are losing more than $75 million everyday because of the infringement.
