Sociology Student Faces DUI Charges for (91) Freeway Fatal Crash

October 26, 2009

Anaheim - A 21-year-old sociology student was brought to a hospital after causing a major fatal crash by driving in the wrong way of the 91 Freeway.

Jessica Sheckell, a first-semester student from Cal State Fullerton, was brought to UCI Medical Center but will be facing charges for driving under the influence, CHP said.

According to CHP reports, Sheckell was driving her 2003 Toyota Tacoma towards west in the eastbound FasTrak lanes of the 91 Freeway when she collided with a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado at around 3:00 a.m.

The car accident killed two people and injured two children riding the Silverado.

The Silverado’s driver, Sally Miguel, 44, was pronounced dead on the scene while Patricia Miguel, 30, who was riding in the front seat, died after being brought to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

Their 11-year-old niece sustained major injuries while her 15-year-old sister’s injuries were described as moderate.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to CHP, Sheckell was the only one wearing a seatbelt during the accident.

The collision closed the FasTrak lane until 5:45 a.m. as two flatbed tow trucks were needed to haul the vehicles off the accident scene.
