AMUSEMENT PARK ACCIDENT: Sonoma-Marin Fair employee in stable condition after roller coaster accident

Petaluma - A Sonoma-Marin Fair employee whose leg was amputated after a roller accident was declared in stable condition.

The employee was standing on the tracks of "Wacky Worm" (5 feet) when his leg was hit on Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. He sustained serious injuries and underwent leg surgery in Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Police officers recognized the man as an East Bay dweller in mid-20s. Details on his identity remained undisclosed.

Brass Ring Amusements' Midway of Fun has already communicated with the family of the injured employee. The amusement representative said the injured worker was standing in a prohibited area when the accident happened.

California Division of Occupational Safety and Health confirmed that the employee has undergone sufficient training from Sonoma-Marin Fair management.

The employee was supposed to handle tickets at another ride. Police authorities were still investigating the details on the cause of accident.

The "Wacky Worm" roller coaster will resume its operations on Thursday.
