CAR ACCIDENT: South County Freeway Accident Kills 30-year-old Driver

May 11, 2011

San Diego - A collision involving a blue Suzuki Sedan and a cement-mixer truck on the northbound lane of Interstate 5 killed a 30-year-old driver and left the highway closed for almost five hours.

The driver of the Sedan, identified to be from San Marcos, was killed after backing diagonally across the roadway and hitting the cement-mixer truck, resulting to a fatal impact which virtually left his car in shambles. The truck, meanwhile, overturned and spilled yards of concrete along several lanes of the road, making it temporarily impassable.

The road was closed at around 1:30 am, and was reopened just before 6:00 am.

California Highway Patrol investigators are still finding out why the man is backing his car across the freeway. The Sedan is sporting Louisiana License plates. The 43-year-old truck driver from San Diego was unharmed in the accident.
