Speeding, Cause of I-80 Fatal Crash

December 7, 2009

Sacramento - The accident that killed a 14-year-old boy Sunday morning is believed to be caused by speeding along the slippery Interstate 80 near Blue Canyon, the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports indicate that Valencia was driving at a high speed on a 2003 Toyota Tacoma when he lost control on the snow-covered road at around 11 am. He then slid down to an embankment before hitting a tree.

The boy, identified as Jack Connor died at the scene as the driver, a 62-year-old man named Jess Valencia, had to be extricated and was immediately taken to a hospital after sustaining mild to moderate injuries. Both were from Orangevale.
