Steven Seagal: Not Above the Law

Ironically, while action hero Steven Seagal’s first movie may be entitled “Above the Law”, the star is now being sued for sexual harassment and illegal sexual trafficking of a female by his former employee, Kayden Nguyen.

The 23-year old Nguyen, who is also a former model, was allegedly hired by Seagal as a personal assistant for his A & E reality TV show Steven Seagal: Lawman. Nguyen flew in from Los Angeles to New Orleans to stay in Seagal’s house for the show when he reportedly began to sexually harass and assault her when she arrived.

In her lawsuit, Nguyen said that Seagal pushed his hands under her skirt, touched her breasts and put his hand down her pants. She also claimed that she was treated as a sex toy and had to avoid Seagal’s repeated sexual advances and assaults.

Further, Nguyen claimed that Seagal’s two young female Russian employees are also being used for his sexual pleasure.

Aside from the above-mentioned charges, Nguyen also filed retaliation, wrongful termination and false representation about employment claims against Seagal and is asking for more than a million dollars worth of damages.

Sexual harassment, is any unwelcome sexual advance, conduct or request directed towards an employee, whether committed by an employee, supervisor or co-employee.

Any victim, whether male or female, may file a complaint about the alleged harassment and in the event that the employer fails to properly address or resolve the complaint, may file a sexual harassment lawsuit against the offender, for which the employer may also be held liable.

Also, if rebuffing the harasser’s advances or filing a complaint would result to further abuse and retaliation against the employee, which may include demotion or employment termination, wrongful termination based on sexual harassment may be filed.

Under the following scenarios, the employee is entitled to be awarded damages, which may include punitive damages against the employer. Bear in mind however, that while sexual harassment in the workplace is an actionable wrong, it must be filed within the given Statute of Limitations. Although this may be extended by state laws, employees should file sexual harassment charges within 180 days.
