"Taxi" Icon Jeff Conaway Dies in LA Hospital

May 27, 2011

Los Angeles-- 'Taxi" star Jeff Conaway passed away after his life support was taken off at a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday.

Conaway's family members decided to remove Jeff's life support after the three-week medical treatment at Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles reports.

Reports said that the actor was rushed to the hospital after he was found unconscious in his LA home. Celebrity Doctor Drew Pinsky commented that Conaway was suffering from sepsis and pneumonia, which could have lethally infected his blood. On the other hand, critics argued that the star potentially died of prescription drug overdose.

Pinsky asserted that the 'Taxi' icon was in a medically induced coma and on a Propafol drip during his last hours.

Reports from RadarOnline said that Conoway could have aspirated one of the pills, triggering the lethal effects of pneumonia.

The 70's star had suffered neck and hip injuries during an accident on the set of "Grease" and since then became dependent on pain killers. He portrayed as "Kenickie" in the film alongside John Travolta. He also played as "Bobby Wheeler" in the TV show "Taxi". Recently, he appeared in the hit TV reality show "Celebrity Rehab".
