VEHICLE COLLISION: Teen dies after colliding with school bus

June 9, 2010

Keyes – A 16-year-old student of Orestimba High School was killed Wednesday morning after his car hit a school bus on Crows Landing Road, south of Modesto.

Stanislaus County Coroner’s office identified the boy as Alan Gerardo Bautista from Newman.

According to CHP Officer Eric Parsons, the accident occurred around 7 a.m. A 12-passenger Ford school bus driven by Lisa Powers, 41, was running on southbound lane of Crows Landing near Taylor Road. Bautista’s 2005 Toyota Corolla was approaching the northbound lane.

For unknown reasons, the Corolla drifted into the oncoming opposite lane. Powers tried to slow down and get out of the way but could not, and the vehicles collided.

Bautista was driving behind his mother who is a teacher in Modesto when the accident happened. He planned to help her at school first before heading to a production rehearsal at the Youth Entertainment Stage Company in which Bautista was an active member.

His relatives claim that Bautista is “full of life” and that his passion was drama. He would have turned 17 this August and he plans on attending California State University.

Bautista was the only casualty of the accident. Powers was not injured, and there were no children on the school bus, which was from East Valley Education Center in Oakdale.
