FALL ACCIDENT: Toddler Dies after Falling from a Luxury Suite in Staples Center

November 22, 2010

Los Angeles – The Los Angeles Lakers may have won against the Golden State Warriors in their game Sunday night, but it ended in tragedy for some of their fans after a 2-year-old boy fell from the third-level luxury suite of the Staples Center.

Lucas Anthony Tang was with his parents and older sister and was taking pictures with them after the game when he went over the edge and plunged from the window of the skybox with a glass safety barrier, police officer Julie Sohn said. He ended up on the seats below.

Fire officials said that the toddler fell 25 to 50 feet and suffered severe head trauma. He was still moving when paramedics put him in an ambulance, according to Michael Roth, Vice-president of Communications for Staples Center. However, he died around 1 am in USC Medical Center where he was taken. The official cause of death has not yet been determined.

The case is being handled by the Police Department juvenile division and is now being investigated. It is not yet clear whether or not the accident will affect the Staples schedule which includes a game between the LA Clippers and New Orleans Hornets on Monday.
