CAR ACCIDENT: US Envoy injured, nun killed in L.A. car crash

Los Angeles - US Ambassador to Malta Douglas Kmiec sustained serious injuries, while a nun died after a car accident in Malta.

Kmiec, also a law professor at Pepperdine University, was in critical condition and has remained hospitalized. Sister Mary Campbell of St. Louis, died instantly after the single car crash at 1:30 p.m., reports said.

The 2009 Hyundai Accent, driven by Kmiec, was heading westbound of Mulholland Highway when it swerved onto a dirt shoulder and crashed into a trench, police said.

Pastor Emeritus of Malibu parish Msgr. John Sheridan, also suffered serious injuries and underwent surgery, reports said.

Msgr.Sheridan and Ambassador Kmiec were wearing seatbelt, while Sister Campbell was at the back seat at the time of accident.

Los Angeles Police Department officers are still investigating the details on the cause of accident.
