PREMISES LIABILITY: USC to Face Lawsuit for Athlete’s Injuries

January 24, 2011

Los Angeles – Injured former USC running back Stafon Johnson has announced filing of a personal injury lawsuit against the University of Southern California in connection with the injury suffered by the athlete during a weight room accident in 2009, Johnson’s lawyers said in a press conference.

Reports said the accident occurred in September 2009 when a barbell fell on the athlete’s throat, crushing his throat and larynx and resulted in a serious throat injury. The accident has caused Johnson to be hospitalized for two weeks. USC said a coach who acted as spotter was present during the accident.

Johnson was able to play again only after several surgeries.

Details about the case and the damages were not discussed in the news conference.
