EMPLOYMENT LAW: Unfair Compensation Charges Filed against SoCal Farm Contractor

March 10, 2010

Imperial County - A male farm labor contractor has been sued by the state prosecutors who alleged that he paid his field workers a salary that is lower than the imposed minimum wage and he failed to provide them with necessary meal breaks, shades, and drinking water.

According to reports, the lawsuit charged that Juan Munoz violated California’s unfair competition laws.

The contractor allegedly provided field workers to some onion farmers located in Coachella Valley, Mojave Desert, and Kern County.

However, the suit did not mention the exact number of workers that Munoz allegedly victimized, said reports.

The lawsuit is now asking for over $1 million in restitution and penalties and demands that Munoz should stop from performing illegal practices, which include failure to pay withholding taxes and giving enough rest time to his workers.
