Zero Announces First Motorcycle Recall Because of Throttle Defect

October 17, 2009

Scotts Valley – Three reports about a throttle defect, with at least one resulting to a minor injury, has prompted Zero Motorcycles to announce the first ever recall of one of its products.

The electric motorcycle manufacturer announced the voluntary recall of some 2009 off-road dirt bikes for throttle defects that cause unexpected acceleration.

According to reports, the new dashboard has a feature that prevents the bike from being turned on if the throttle is engaged.

The models in question do not have such feature, so if the throttle was engaged prior to ignition, the motorcycle would take off once it is turned on.

The company called all 172 owners of the Zero X and MX to send them a replacement dashboard to resolve the issue.

According to the company’s representative, the installation of the new dashboard is very easy and should just take 10-15 minutes of the owner’s time.

If the owner is unable to install the dashboard, the company can also arrange to have the part installed.
