Priscilla Perez filed a lawsuit against her former employer, One Perfect Choice, claiming she was fired after testing positive for COVID-19. Her suit includes allegations of wrongful termination, disability discrimination and intentional infliction of emotional distress.<\/p>\n
Perez started her employment as an office assistant last December and was consistently praised for her good performance.<\/p>\n
Towards the end of June, Perez tested positive for COVID-19 and took ten days off to recover. When she returned to work, her supervisor \u201cbegan giving her the runaround\u201d and told her to file for unemployment benefits. She was also told that the company could no longer afford to pay her, even though they hired additional employees and even gave other employees salary increases.<\/p>\n
According to the suit, the company did not pay her for the time she was off, as required by law. Perez spoke to her managers about being discriminated against for having the coronavirus but they retaliated by firing her on July 18.<\/p>\n
Perez was told that she was terminated because the company was reorganizing due to the pandemic. However, Perez said there was never any reorganization<\/p>\n
