What constitutes sex discrimination?
Sex discrimination is what comes into play when one is treated differently by reason of his/her sex and when such different treatment adversely affects the terms or conditions of employment (or of any engagement, terms and conditions of which are agreed on by concerned parties), such treatment is then considered illegal. The primary cause of sex discrimination is such social phenomenon termed as sexism. Sexism is commonly considered to be hatred against people based solely on their sex. Employers are required to have specific policies for the purpose of ensuring in all respects non-discriminatory treatment of employees regardless of sex and of marital status. When applied in the arena of education, laws prohibiting sex discrimination prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
