9 Killed by Drunk Driver in Fresno County

In a preliminary report last Thursday, federal investigators said that the driver of a Dodge Journey SUV was proven drunk and didn’t have a license. The car accident killed nine, involving seven children ages 6 and 15 years old of two related families. They were traveling in a Ford F-150 truck, driven by a 34-year-old woman, along rural State Route 33 in Fresno County when they were hit head-on leading the car to burst in flames and on the dirt shoulder, while the Dodge was on both lanes of the highway in a full stop.

According to the preliminary report of the National Safety Board, the 28-year-old Dodge driver had a blood-alcohol level more than the average state’s legal limit. Interestingly enough both drivers were found with marijuana in their systems. Toxicology results are being investigated and would determine the role of the alcohol and drug impairment in the car crash. Other causes such as fatigue, medical conditions, or distraction are also being examined with the use of medical and human performance evaluation to further determine the factors in the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.

The car accident rate in California has only increased in volume through time, with various causes leaving minor to severe injuries, significant damage to property, and even death.
