The 44-year-old truck driver sustained minor injuries, but the other victims endured far worse. There were five people inside the Dodge that hit the big rig, 2 adults and 3 children.

The 62-year-old female driver died at the scene while the 59-year-old female passenger was airlifted to Holy Cross Medical Center but was later pronounced dead. The two children passengers, 6 and 9 years of age, were transported to Antelope Valley Hospital and were soon declared dead due to the fatal injuries sustained from the accident. The 3rd child passenger, a 5-year-old boy was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with an unknown condition and is currently being treated. Further investigation is being conducted with no update yet on the cause of the accident.

The reasons why such accidents with these big rigs happen can be from over speeding, overloading, poor vehicle maintenance, and the like, or even negligence from nearby commuters. Regardless of the cause of the accident, once a vehicle this big collides with another vehicle, it is proven to be catastrophic and typically leads to fatalities.
