An L.A. resident was on his skateboard when he was hit and killed by an L.A. Metro bus on Sunday in East Los Angeles.

California Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene after midnight and found the 26-year old man lying down on the roadway.

A witness saw the bus stopped at a red light and when it drove at the green light, they heard screams. The witness says she only saw the victim on the ground but did not actually see the bus hit the man. The victim was on his skateboard when the but hit him, according to the witness. The witness’s account did not clearly state if the bus driver got out of the vehicle to check on the victim or if he even knew he hit someone.

Officers from the Sheriff’s Department found and stopped the bus in the South El Monte area

Earlier reports identified it as a hit-and-run. However, investigators later said that was not the case. Officials did not give any explanation as to why they did not consider it a hit-and-run.

Bus accident claims can be lengthy and complicated. Like any personal injury claim, you will need to prove that the other party was negligent, that their negligence caused your injuries, and that you suffered losses and damages due to your injuries. However, making a claim against a public transportation system is different from your usual personal injury claim. They have certain rules and procedures that must be followed because they are agencies operated by the government.

To ensure that you comply with these sets of rules and to successfully get the compensation you deserve, contact our bus accident attorneys at Mesriani Law Group.
