Tesla Fires Workers Who Stayed Home Amid Virus Concerns

Table of Contents for Specific Topics

When Elon Musk re-opened his Tesla factory in Fremont, California, he sent an email to employees informing them that they could report back to work, but if they felt “uncomfortable coming back to work at this time,” they should “not feel obligated to do so.”

Shortly thereafter, three Tesla factory workers were fired in Fremont for not returning to work.

One of the workers has a one-year old son with severe respiratory problems. Another is caring for an aging stepfather. The third worker’s fiancée recently had heart surgery and now has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to the Washington Post.

All three workers were rightly concerned for their loved one’s health if they returned to the factory and risked contracting the virus and took Musk’s offer to stay home.

Workers at the Freemont Plant have complained about employees not following safety guidelines and the lack of enforcement.

The Washington Post has reported at least two positive COVID-19 tests at the Tesla plant.
